General Aviation

The Penticton Flying Club is a non-instructing flying club dedicated to promoting and supporting aviation. It sponsors educational and social events and hosts a weekly fly-in coffee on Thursday mornings, attracting pilots from throughout the region.
The Flying Club owns a 1971 Cessna 172, which is available to members who have met all necessary insurance and club requirements. Tied-down outdoor parking with power and water is available year-round for members, and visiting pilots can access short-term parking. For all parking enquiries, contact the Penticton Flying Club.

The Canadian Rockies 99s is part of the Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots, founded on Nov. 2, 1929, by 99 women pilots. Amelia Earhart was their first president. Since 1929, the group has grown to a 6,500-member, non-profit, worldwide organization.
The BC Coast 99s is an active group that organizes events. Visit their website for information about joining any of these groups as well as scholarship opportunities for female pilots.

Aerial Fire Fighting and Search and Rescue

The Kamloops Fire Centre is divided into five different zones and eight bases, with the Penticton Zone’s primary-attack base operating out of Penticton Airport. The Penticton Fire Zone is home to a team of year-round staff along with initial attack firefighting crews and other seasonal support staff who respond to wildfires in the area.
From the base at Penticton Airport, initial attack firefighters are deployed to emerging wildfires, and support staff coordinate operations and liaise with the main Kamloops Fire Centre office in Kamloops. The base also has facilities that are used for training and to temporarily house an Incident Management Team should they be called in to manage a wildfire in the area.
One of BC Wildfire Service’s air tanker bases is also located at YYF, where contracted air tankers as well as contract helicopters can be deployed to respond to wildfires.

Provincial Emergency Program Air (PEP Air) is a B.C.-wide volunteer aviation association that provides air search support services to the National Search and Rescue Program. The Penticton operation is based the Penticton Flying Club and works closely with 442 Transport Squadron from the Canadian Forces base at Comox to conduct searches for missing aircraft, boaters, hikers and others.
PEP Air trains pilots, navigators and spotters for the search and rescue roles. The Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) provides air search support services for downed aircraft.
