If you’re planning to take a flight this holiday season, there may be a few extra steps to check off your list before rolling up to the airport.
Pacific Coastal has prepared a helpful blog that runs through some important reminders. Here are some key points adapted from their post.
1. Be prepared to show proof of vaccination
Air passengers over the age of 12 years and four months need to be fully vaccinated for domestic flights, as per the Government of Canada requirements. You will need to show your vaccination passport showing proof of double vaccination to travel (or an official exemption letter) along with picture identification.
2. Masks are mandatory
All travellers over the age of two must wear a mask or face covering over their mouth and nose while travelling through the airport and during the flight. Find out more on our Health & Safety page.
3. Arrive earlier than usual
Most airlines suggest arriving at the airport for a domestic flight 60-90 minutes ahead of your scheduled flight time. This time of year, airports are busier and baggage screening may take more time. Note that the check-in and baggage deadline is typically 40-45 minutes before your flight.
4. Checking in online can save time
Be sure to check your flight confirmation ahead of time. You may also wish to check-in online with your airline.
5. Avoid wrapping your Christmas gifts
Leave your gifts unwrapped as the contents may need to be inspected, advises CATSA. Also, don’t forget that items in your carry-on baggage may be subject to volume restrictions if liquid, aerosols or gel is present. In other words, ensure any gifts like wine or beer are packed safely in your checked baggage.
6. Check your flight status
This time of year, delays can happen! Check with your airline’s flight status tools or watch our website’s arrival and departure updates.
