Did you know that pointing a laser light at an aircraft or into airspace is a crime? This can be blinding to pilots – and puts lives at danger.
In fact, anyone caught doing so can be convicted and face up to $100,000 in fines or up to five years in prison.
Transport Canada is issuing reminders of this serious offence following some recent cases of laser lights being directed at aircraft throughout the area.
Penticton residents should also be aware that considering most live within 10 km of the airport, it’s illegal to possess a hand-held laser over 1 milliwatt – unless it’s for work, school or educational purposes.
Lasers put people in the plane and those on the ground at serious risk. Please share this information amongst people of all ages to help keep everyone in our community safe.
